The 2010 China Around Taklimakan Rally & China Auto Off-Road Series Rally Xinjiang Substation Match news conference and promotion conference was held at the Ruihao Hotel in Urumchi of Xinjiang at 11 am on February 8th of 2010.
Mr. He Jiandong, the member of the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) Cross Country Committee and Vice Secretary General of the Federation of Automobile Sports of PRC released news about the event at the news conference. The competition will last for 12 days from May 28th to June 8th of 2010. The entire race will cover over 4,000 km; there are eight race sections; the special race section which will be extra difficult is nearly 2,000 km long; the percentage of desert race section in the special race section will be increased by 20% than that of the previous year. The race route will cover Turpan, Harmy, Bazhou, Hetian and Aksu; the eventual route will be released after the joint road inspection after March of 2010. This rally will be divided into car group, motorcycle group, and newly-added truck group and international racing group for the invitation race. There will be car racing teams and motorcycle racing teams from all around China as well as overseas racing teams for the invitation race; there will be over 200 racing vehicles competing in the rally and the number of riders and drivers will reach nearly 400.
The entire route of the 2010 Taklimakan Rally will have GPS speed supervision. Dangerous overtaking acts will be fined greatly. Vehicle inspection will be stricter; candidates' safety equipment and vehicles' safety refitting will be examined seriously. The motorcycle group will be forced to use the appointed GPS system.
At the news conference, Jiang Yaohuan who is the driver of the Chery Rely Racing Team and participated in the 2010 Dakar Rally, Su Wenmin who is the rider of the Jincheng Suzuki Racing Team and also participated in the 2010 Dakar Rally received interviews from the host; the two Chinese representatives in the 2010 Dakar Rally which finished not long ago showed great confidence for the coming 2010 Taklimakan Rally which is called 'the Dakar Rally in the East'; they expressed their wish to make all their efforts in the rally and achieve their best results; they also wished a complete success of the 2010 Taklimakan Rally.
At the news conference, Fang Zheng, the general manager of the Taklimakan Rally Company, did a promotion for the 2010 Taklimakan Rally brand promotion activity; he introduced by saying that the 2010 Taklimakan Rally brand promotion activity combines the Taklimakan Rally culture and shares the Taklimakan Rally platform; the brand promotion activity will innovate boldly and attempt to make breakthroughs in new areas. In addition, the most attractive event is the a-thousand-vehicle and ten-thousand-people crossing the Taklimakan desert activity which will begin in May of 2010 (the Taklimakan Rally participating racing teams and the special tourist group will go through the Taklimakan desert at the last stage of the Taklimakan Rally). The purpose of holding this special tourism festival is to make it as Xinjiang's yearly special tourism cultural festival and make it as Xinjiang's No.1 special tourism event as well as showing it to the world as Xinjiang's tourism card.
This event will be broadcasted by CCTV and the Hunan Satellite TV television relay alliance; entertaining and modern elements will be added in the professional sports event to make the rally more interesting and enjoyable.
At the news conference, Wang Yongping who is the Vice Director of the Xinjiang Sports Bureau delivered an explaining speech about the Taklimakan Rally internationalisation strategy and market operation strategy; he mentioned: the Taklimakan Rally will be recognised as an international event in 2012 at the latest, so the internationalization goal of the Taklimakan Rally can be achieved. The Taklimakan Rally will continue to make market operation as its major task, operate the Taklimakan Rally under the government support and supervision, and make the business operation mode of the Taklimakan Rally Company diversified.
